How to Collapse Your Hula Hoop

I’ve been meaning to make a video about this for a while and you can find some examples on YouTube showing how to collapse a hula hoop, but one of my Twitter friends recently requested photos on how to do this, so I figured I’d put it out there for all to see.

Start by holding your hoop upright with the connectors at the top & bottom of the hoop like so…

Place each hand on either side of the top connector.
Push down on the hoop while slightly twisting your right hand towards you & your left hand away from you.

Then fold one side of the collapsed hoop over the other side, folding it in half.

Voila! Now your hoop is collapsed!

Usually the hoop tries to unfold and will not stay collapsed (which is why my hand is in this pic). So I usually tie the hoop together with a pretty ribbon to keep if from unfolding.

I hope this helps! By the way, that is an Age of Aquarius Collapsible Hula Hoop which just so happens to be on sale (20% off!) until this Saturday!

See ya later happy hoopers!

Hoopy Beginnings…

OK… I am wayy behind on posting. It has been months. I scold myself every few days, yet still no writing or photo uploading is being done. Part of the problem is I get so behind that I don’t even know where to start! So I will start now with my new beginning…

Just 2 1/2 weeks ago I moved from the “lovely” city of Troy, NY to Vestal (Binghamton), NY. That is about a 2 hr drive south near the PA border for those who are geographically challenged like myself. I had to close up (hoop) shop for 2 weeks to get settled and take a long awaited vaca to Cozumel, Mexico (it was beautiful by the way), but the shop has now reopened!

I love it here so far, although I haven’t really ventured out of my neighborhood much yet except to visit Target and Walmart, which I already hate BTW. Super Walmarts suck ass, they are wayyy too large and this one is always crowded no matter what time of day it is. I think I can blame the university for that one. But on to the good parts…

My New Hoop Space

We have a beautiful new house. And it really is like new! Unfortunately for those who lived here, the house was damaged pretty badly in the September flood from the hurricane so basically the entire interior had to be replaced. Good for us though! It is a 3 bedroom, wayyy bigger than we need for our family of 2 + dog + Bunny, so one room (which I have taken over) is being used for an office. We also have a huge basement which is being used for my indoor hooping space! Although it is a little cold, has low ceilings, and is pretty ugly down there, it is a lot more space than I had before! It just needs a little love and decorating. Above is a photo I took before we moved in, but you can get an idea of what I am working with! Any suggestions for decorating and making it a happy space would be much appreciated!

Happy hooping peeps xx

HoopBunny Horoscope Hoops

Lady Libra Collapsible Hula Hoop

The Horoscope Hoops are the first themed collection in the HoopBunny Hoop shop! The first three – Lady Libra, Sizzlin’ Scorpio, and Sparkling Sagittarius – are currently listed for sale on Etsy. The 20% sale for the Lady Libra Collapsible Hula Hoop recently ended on 10/22 when the Libra sign of the Zodiac also ended.

Sizzlin' Scorpio Collapsible Hula Hoop

Throughout the sign of the Scorpio (right now!), the Sizzlin’ Scorpio Collapsible Hula Hoop will be on sale for just $20! I think this may be my favorite out of the first 3 Horoscope Hoops, even though I usually prefer the bright neon colors (and I’m a Libra!). The sale on the Scorpio hoop ends 11/21.

Sparkling Sagittarius Collapsible Hula Hoop

As you may have guessed, the Sparkling Sagittarius Collapsible Hula Hoop will be on sale (for 20% off) during the sign of the Sagittarius, starting November 22nd. Each Horoscope Hoop will be on sale during that particular sign of the Zodiac. The next three hoops that will be released in this collection are for the Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces signs.
These will be listed within the next month so keep checking the shop for new listings!

Each of the horoscope hoops are designed with specific colors that correspond to that particular sign’s symbol, element, ruling planets, star stones, etc. I put a lot of research into designing the horoscope hoops to represent each individual sign of the Zodiac. I am excited to get the rest of the collection in the HoopBunny Hoops shop and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

My First Hoop Video!

I have recorded my first hooping video! Well, actually it’s not technically my first video, but I recorded my other videos with an actual video camera and when I went to upload them, realized my computer doesn’t have a video uploader & BF threw away the CD for the camera. Urgh.

Anyway, here is my NEWEST video. It is mostly hand hooping. The new trick I am currently working on is the vertical behind the back pass (I think that’s what it is called anyway). It is when the hoop is spinning on the vertical axis behind my back. It’s a lot harder than it looks! I have a cut on my nose that is finally healing which was caused by the hoop somehow coming in front of my while practicing this and landing right on my sunglasses… ouch! From that I learned not to wear glasses while hooping!

Shipping Woes…

Recently I received an inquiry at the HoopBunny Hoops shop about an order for 12 Custom Collapsible Hula Hoops. Yes, TWELVE hoops at once! And to make it even more flattering, she didn’t even choose any specific color schemes for them, she just likes the style of my hoops she has already seen. I’m pretty excited to get started on them!

The only problem I am having now (and stressing about) is how the heck am I going to ship them? I have only ever shipped one hoop at a time and the packaging I use now is pretty simple, I don’t even use a box. I collapse the hoop, cover it in bubble wrap, then in packing paper, and then tape the whole thing up. It’s not the most beautiful packaging you’ve ever seen, but it works and is fairly cheap.

If I was to ship all the hoops together, I would need a pretty large box. The biggest one I found at Home Depot probably won’t be tall enough to even fit all 12 in so I would most likely need at least 2. I used the price calculator at USPS and it estimated that a box of this size (22 x 22 x 21.5) would cost $90… yikes! So now I’m trying to figure out if I can ship from somewhere else like FedEx or UPS at a cheaper price and if it would cost more/less to break the order up into multiple packages. I wonder if I could use my current packaging method and group 2 or 3 together. That would make 6 separate packages at the most and would be more like $60 I believe.

The reason I’m stressing a bit is because I need to figure this out (and make the hoops) ASAP. Some are being used for an event the first week in November so that doesn’t give me a ton of time. I’d like to provide the lowest possible shipping price that I can for her.

I just needed to take a break from researching and get my thoughts out. Anyone have any experience shipping a lot of hoops or just a large package? Any help would be much appreciated 🙂

I’ll have to take my hoop out for my next little break and spin away some stress!

Happy Hooping xo
