Easy(ish) Mapley Treats!

Oops! I thought I had posted this weeks ago, but just found it in my drafts. This year was my fist Thanksgiving away from my family. I spent the holiday with Mark’s family down in Chemung, NY. Before we left I made some maple candy to bring to his dad. The recipe calls for pure maple sugar and his dad harvests his own maple syrup so I wanted to use his to make some mapley treats.

The recipe I used looked pretty easy, but it was my first time really using a candy thermometer and even though I paid close attention to the temperature it still didn’t turn out so easy. Sugar is tricky! They tasted good, but the candy started hardening up too fast and only got about 5 of the molds filled before it was too thick to spoon out. I heated it back up, but they came out looking a little frosty. Oh well, I still thought they tasted great! VERY sugary. It is pretty much like eating maple flavored sugar so it doesn’t take much to satisfy that sweet tooth. I didn’t get a chance to take a picture of them before they were all eaten up…I guess that is a good sign!

I found a picture of my first attempt at making maple candy. The thermometer broke and glass got into the candy so it wasn’t edible, but I got a picture of it cooling off in the molds. Too bad they had to go right in the trash. 😦

Hot Pink ‘n’ Flashy

This is my newest hoop creation! I am loving the hot pink/black/silver combo. It is made with silver mirror tape and hot pink gaffer tape, which gives it a better grip and makes it easier to keep it up on the body. It is a 39 in. 100 PSI hoop, good size for exercise. I would say 39-41 in. works best for exercise (for my size anyway) and the lightweight 100 PSI makes you work harder to keep it up, workin’ those ab muscles!

I finally figured out the PSI of the tubing I have while I was taping this one. It was printed on the inside of the hoop. I got lucky because this is the kind I need to make collapsible hoops. I am going to start making them soon so I can get my Etsy shop up and going. It would be impossible to ship a full sized hoop so if I make them collapsible I will be able to ship them that way. I think I may have to keep this one for myself though, its too pretty to give away! 🙂

Busy Busy Bee, err Puppysitter!

I haven’t had much time for hooping or crafts lately due to the fact these little cuties have entered my home. Mark’s working out of town so I’m responsible for them AND the 3 yr old golden we already have and little Bunny of course. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad we rescued them, but its a lot of work! Don’t let them fool you, they’re little monsters! Cute little monsters. Xxox

A Day on the Farm

Recently we spent the day at Liberty Ridge Farm for their annual Farm Festival. I can’t believe I have never heard of this wonderful place before! They have so much fun stuff to do (mazes, pumpkin shooter, life size gerbil wheels, BUNNY TOWN) and Schaghticoke is sooo close to where I live. Although a lot of the activities were geared towards kids, Mark and I still had a blast at the fest!

My favorite part was the Rabbit Town of course. It was a little western town they built for their bunnies to live in with tunnels that connected all the buildings underground. It is super cute! I want to have my own bunny town some day. I’m thinking instead of a western town I’ll have a candyland bunny town hehe how cute would that be?! The camera on my phone wasn’t really cooperating with me that day, but I managed to get a couple pics out of it. I can only imaging what people were thinking about me taking a million pictures of the bunnies. I didn’t mind. I was too focused on the cuteness.

Chocolate Peanutbutter Fantasy Footballs

This past weekend Mark had his fantasy football draft at the house. Since I’m not allowed to play this year (boys only!) I decided I’d contribute with some yummy treats! I have been researching different chocolate candies lately to get some ideas for my future endeavors and came across this one for chocolate footballs that I thought would be PERFECT for the occasion. Apparently the boys did too because they were a big hit! Take a look at the finished product!

They were pretty delicious, if I do say so myself. Mark is already asking for more! I think I’ll make them again for the superbowl, that will give me a little time to perfect them!

If you want to make some yourself check out the recipe after the break!
